what is an epiphyte?
a plant that grows on another plant in order to reach sunlight and it is not parasitic it gets it nurturance from air and pools of water
what are lianas?
vines that quickly grow around trees rapping them selves in order to get up to sunlight.
What are buttress roots?
roots that are wide to support trees and they shallow roots to capture nutrients close to surface.
What are Emergents?
Emergents reach through the dense canopy for light. they are slow growing tree which means they are hard woods . some of the tallest trees can be almost 65 meters high.
What are drip tips leaves
drip tip leaves are angled so that water can drip right of the leaves so that photosynthesis can continue. and they are waxy so that it can prevent mould and helps drain water from the leaves.
what is the canopy layer
these trees are approximately 30-40 meters tall they have waterlogged conditions and there is a great competition to reach the top in order to reach the sunlight.
what are the shrubs like in the rainforest?
they are waxy and jagged to prevent consumption from herbivores . They live of the 2% of light that reaches the forest floor . The shrubs are softwoods.
why are some leaves dark green?
Greater levels of chlorophyll are found on the leaves and it absorbs more light.
Name some adaptions that animals have in the boreal forest.
Thick fur - To deal with cold.
Antlers - For nurturance an to fight off predators.
Big feet - to avoid falling into the snow.
White fur - to blend in with the surrounding environment.
how did the British empire grow so quickly
Britain was the first countries to start there industrial revolution which meant there were to mass produce goods.
There navy was the best at the time which was key as they were an island and they need it to protect them.
