20
Q

What is stage of 2 of the demographic transition model (birth rate, death rate, growth rate).

A
  • Birth rate still very high
  • death rate starting to shrink
  • Growth rate: rapid growth
21
Q

Countries on level 2 or the demographic transition model:

A

Peru and Sri Lanka

22
Q

Stage one on the demographic transition model: and where does this happen

A

Birth rate very high
Death rate very high
Growth rate Los and stable
( poor and isolated areas )

23
Q

Stage five dtm? Examples?

A

Birth rate still dropping
Death rate still low, stable
Growth rate negative
( Japan South Korea )

24
Q

Level four dtm? Examples?

A

Birth rate low and stable
Death rate low and stable
Growth rate slowing down ( Australia and Canada)

25
Q

Stage three dtm?

A

Birth rate starting to drop

(India)

26
Q

What is the dependency load of a country?

A

Everyone younger than 15 and older than 65 - the ages who aren’t working and are dependent on others.

27
Q

Why is it bad to have a rapidly growing population?

A

Because too many children and not enough older people leads to overcrowding and resource competition. There is a correlation with lower education, more poverty, and lower quality of life.

28
Q

Why is it bad to have a rapidly shrinking population?

A

The workforce would decrease which could affect the economy. Also the society becomes less dynamic and competitive. Then, fewer people would be paying into pension funds at the same time that more and more old people are drawing from them (and living longer thanks to modern medicine).

29
