Genomes Flashcards
What are Polyploid organisms?
They are organisms that contain more than two set of chromosomes.
What is an autoploid?
An organism that has more than two haploid sets of chromosomes, derived from the same ancestral species.
What is an alloploid?
An organism that has more than two haploid sets of chromosomes, derived from different ancestral species.
What is transposition?
Transposition is the movement of short DNA segments around the genome.
What are Ortholougues?
Orthologs are genes found in different species that have evolved from a common ancestral gene.
What are Paralogoues?
They are a pair of genes that have derived from the same ancestral gene and now reside at different locations within the same genome.
