Animate nouns: -a
Inanimate nouns: -a / -u
Exceptions: -y / -i (Mezczyzny, kolegi)
-a in inanimate is mostly used in tools, diches, months, parts of the body, names of polish cities, endings with -ak -ek -ik -yk.
When do we use genitive singular?
Genitive singular is used to:
- Answer questions with Kogo (person) and Czego (Thing or concept)
- Express negation of the direct object of the sentence expressed by accusative
- Express possession
- Express quantity
- Express dates and time relations
- Express direction after prepositions: Do, Od, Z.
