Genitals Flashcards
Describe the blood supply to the male genitals (arterial)
Internal pudendal, coming from the internal iliac, gives off branches: dorsal artery of the penis which supplies the top of the penis, the deep artery of the penis which runs along the middle of the penis to supply the erectile tissue and the artery to the bulb of the penis which supplies blood to the bulb and corpus spongiosum.
The external pudendal, from the femoral artery, contributes to blood supply of the scrotum and perineum.
The testes receive blood supply from the testicular artery from the AA.
Describe the blood supply to the female genitals (arterial)
Uterine artery from the internal iliac travels along the side of the uterus.
Vaginal artery from the II supplies external genitalia
Ovarian artery arises from the posterior division of the II supplies the ovary, also giving off branches for fallopian tube and broad ligament
Internal pudendal artery from II also supplies external genitalia, but gives off several branches for the clitoris, labia majora and perineum.
Describe the blood supply to the male genitalia (venous)
Penile veins - deep dorsal and cavernous veins. Deep dorsal along top of penis for skin and fascia of penis and perineum. Cavernous veins drain blood from erectile tissue of penis in the corpora cavernosa.
Testicular veins drain the testis. RTV from IVC and LTV from the LRV.
Superficial external pudendal veins drain blood form skin and subcutaneous tissue of perineum.
