Genetics and Nervous System Flashcards
What is the cornea?
Transparent structure covering the iris and pupil that refracts light.
What is the lens?
Biconvex structure behind the pupil that refracts light onto the retina.
What is the iris?
Coloured muscle pair surrounding the pupil that controls its constriction and dilation.
What is the ciliary body?
Structure of ciliary muscles that change the shape of the lens.
What is the choroid?
Structure between the retina and sclera that provides oxygen and nourishment to the retina.
What is the retina?
Layer of receptors (rods and cones) behind the lens.
What is the sclera?
Outer protective layer - the white of the eye.
What is the fovea?
Part of the retina with the sharpest vision that is responsible for about half of all impulses from the eye.
What is the optic nerve?
Nerve connecting the eye to the brain.
What is the pupil?
Hole that lets light through to the lens.
What is the suspensory ligament?
Ligaments connecting ciliary muscles to the lens.
