What basic principles were provided by Mendel’s experiments?

A

Dominant: allele expressed over others
Recessive: masked by dominant allele
Segregation: each sperm or egg gets one member if a pair if alleles
Homozygous; both alleles are identical for a given trait
Heterozygous: pair of alleles contains a dominant and recessive gene
Independent assortment: pairs if alleles tend to be sorted into gametes independent if other pairs
