Genetics Flashcards
Incomplete Dominance
Both alleles (different versions of the same gene) are EXPRESSED AS A BLEND in the heterozygote
Codominance
Alleles (different versions of the same gene) are SIMULTANEOUSLY EXPRESSED in the heterozygote
X-linked:
Recessive:
More common in males as they only have 1 x chromosome: 1 allele = has the trait
X-linked:
Dominant:
Trait is common in pedigree
Males & females equally affected
Affected father pass it to ALL daughters
Y-linked:
trait occurs in males only
reoccurs in all sons of affected males
daughters of affected men= phenotypically normal & do not have affected offspring
Sexual Reproduction
2 parents
Fusion of female & male cells (gametes)
Parent & offspring are NOT identical
Slower
Variation
Asexual Reproduction
1 parent
No gametes produced
Parent & offspring are identical
Faster
Less/no variation
