Genetics Flashcards
What is a homologous chromosome?
A pair of chromosomes with maternal and paternal origin
What is incomplete dominance? (Simple inheritance)
A heterozygous genotype that expresses a phenotype that is intermediate between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive expression.
Eg. A little of each - has is Ff for cystic fibrosis but still has a mild form of the disease.
3 process that result in genetic variation? (How are we all so different)
Meiosis: independent assortment chromosomes
Meiosis: crossover of homologous chromosomes
Random fertilisation of egg by sperm
What is genotype?
A persons genetic makeup (eg FF = homozygous dominant, Ff = heterozygous, Ff = homozygous recessive)
What is phenotype
A persons physical expression of their genes (eg. FF = freckles, Ff = freckles, ff= no freckles)
