Deficiency: Fructose intolerance
Aldolase B
Deficiency: Lactose intolerance
Lactase
Deficiency: Galactosemia
1) Galactokinase 2) Galactose-1-Phosphate-Uridyltransferase
Deficiency: Fructosuria
Fructokinase
Deficiency: Hurler’s
Alpha L idorunidase
Deficiency: Hunter’s
Idorunate sulfatase
T/F Fructosuria is usually harmful
F
4 signs of Hurler’s
1) Large head 2) Mental retardation 3) Short life span 4) Corneal clouding
Hunter’s and Hurler’s
Mental retardation
Hunter’s is different from Hurler’s on what clinical presentations
ONLY Males, NO corneal clouding
Accumulates in fructose intolerance
Fructose-1-phosphate, not enough free phosphate for glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis > severe hypoglycemia
Management of fructose intolerance
Decrease intake of both fructose and sucrose (glucose + fructose)
GI cramping, pain, gas, osmotic diarrhea
Lactose intolerance
Cataracts, hepatosplenomegaly, mental retardation
Galactosemia
