Genetic Mapping/Positional Cloning Flashcards
1
Q
Genetic Marker
A
Mutation where the size and position on both genetic and physical maps are known. Must be genetically inert (no phenotype).
2
Q
Genetic Linkage Mapping
A
Measured in recombination frequency (centimorgans (cM), alternatively known as a map unit (m.u.))
On a scale from -25 to +25 cM. This is because 50 is the highest possible percentage of recombination frequency.
3
Q
Physical Mapping
A
Measured in base pairs.
On a scale from Base “1” to Base “n”.
4
Q
SNPs
A
Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms. Can be detected by sequencing.
5
Q
Three Factor Mapping
A
Uses 2 mutations as genetic markers.
6
Q
Quantitative Trait Mapping
A
Map using a QTL (Quantitative trait locus)
