What is the definition of genetic diversity?
The total number of different alleles in a population
What happens to get a lot of genetic diversity?
The greater the number of alleles that all members of a species have the greater the genetic diversity of that species
What is natural selection?
Within a population of species there’s a wide variety of alleles
The differential survival and reproduction of individuals is due to difference in their phenotype
What is a phenotype?
Observable physical characteristics that an organism has, i.e recessive (blue eyes) or dominant (brown eyes) allele
What is a genotype?
Genetic make up of an organism
What is a gene pool?
The total number of alleles in a particular population at a specific time
What is allele frequency?
The number of times an allele occurs within the gene pool.
% of all chromosomes in the population that carry that allele
