Adam
- First man God created
- Placed in the garden of Eden to cultivate it
- Expelled from the Garden after eating from “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
Eve
- Formed from one of Adam’s ribs
- Tempted by the serpent;
- ate the forbidden fruit and gave some to Adam.
- Thereafter expelled from Eden with Adam.
- Became the mother of all the living.
Cain
- Rejected by God after offering only “some” of his fruit, in contrast to the “first-fruits” of Abel.
- Killed his brother Abel
- expelled east of Eden
- received a “mark” from God as protection from being slain.
Abel
- Offered the “first-fruits” of his flock, thereby finding favor with God.
- Murdered by his brother Cain.
Seth
- Hebrew for “granted,” or “compensation.”
- Born after the murder of Abel.
- So named by Eve for she considered him a compensation from God in lieu of the deceased Abel.
Enoch
- Lived for 365 years
- walked with God for 300 years
- ascended to heaven.
Methuselah
- The oldest man who ever lived;
2. died at the age of 969 years in the year of the Flood.
Noah 1-3
- Built the ark, thus saving his family from the flood and preserving mankind.
- After the flood entered into a new covenant with God to fill the earth.
- Planted a vineyard, became drunk
Shem
- The second son of Noah.
2. The father of the Semite people.
Ham
- The youngest son of Noah.
2. Was cursed by Noah for seeing his nakedness.
Japheth
- The oldest son of Noah
2. With the help of his brother Shem, he covered the nakedness of their drunk father.
Terah
- Father of Abraham, Haran, Nahor and Sarah.
2. He settled in Haran until his death.
Abram/Abraham pt1-4
- Father of the Israelites.
- Set out from Chaldea to Canaan, the land promised by God to his descendants.
- Twice denied a marital relationship with Sarai, his wife, in fear of death.
- Name changed from Abram, which means a “noble father”, to Abraham, which means “father of many nations”.
Abram/Abraham pt5-8
- Established the covenant of circumcision between him and God.
- Interceded with God for the salvation of Sodom and Gomorrah.
- Gave a tithe to Melchizedek.
- His son, Isaac, was born when he was 100 years old and then he was tested by God to offer Isaac as a burnt offering.
Lot 1-3
- Accompanied Abraham into Canaan but then settled separately in Sodom.
- Taken captive by
Kedorlaomer and rescued by Abraham - Delivered by angels from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Noah 4-6
- fell naked in his tent; and was discovered and humiliated by his son Ham.
- Noah cursed Ham because of this event.
- God found Noah righteous in a totally corrupt generation.
Lot 4-6
- During flight, Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.
- Lot and his daughters ultimately refuged in a cave in the nearby mountains.
- Father of Ben-ammi and Moab by each of his two daughters.
Sarai/Sarah
- Name changed from Sarai, which means “princess of one person”, to Sarah, which means “princess of a whole nation”.
Melchizedek
- King of Salem
- priest of the most high God
- met Abram and received a tithe from him.
Hagar
- Sarah’s servant
- given as a concubine to Abraham to bare him children.
- Born Ishmael to Abram.
Ishmael
- Despite Abraham’s intercession with God, he was rejected as the chosen seed.
- Settled in Paran, becoming a great warrior
- father of the Ishmaelite’s and many Arab tribes.
Moabites and Ammonites
- The two tribes which extend from Lot’s two sons, Moab and Ben-ammi.
- Born to Lot after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, each by one of his own daughters.
- Historically regarded as intense enemies of Israel.
Isaac
- Abraham’s son of Promise.
Rebecca
- Found by Abraham’s steward at the city of Nahor in Padan-aram.
- Mother of Jacob and Esau.
Bethuel
- Nephew of Abraham

Laban
- Brother of Rebecca
2. He deceitfully married Jacob first to Leah and then to Rachel.
Keturah
- Wife of Abraham (after Sarah)

Jacob/Israel
- Father of the nation of Israel
- Upon Esau’s return from the field, bought Esau’s birthright with a bowl of lentil soup, swearing by oath.
- Deceived his blind father to acquire Isaac’s blessing intended for Esau.
- God gave him twelve sons and a daughter by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and two of his wives’ servants, Bilhah and Zilpah.
- After a night of wrestling with God, Jacob’s name was changed to Israel, which means “he who wrestles with God”.
Esau/Edom
- While famished, sold his birthright to Jacob.
- Lost his father’s blessing after Jacob went to Isaac dressed in animal fur, posing as Esau.
- Long after, when the descendants of Jacob came out of Egypt, the Edomites warred against Israel.
Leah
- Her father deceitfully passed her off in marriage to Jacob even though his preference was Rachel.
- Leah quickly bore Jacob six sons and one daughter before Rachel ever had a child.
- Mother of Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun and Dinah.
Rachel
- Mother of Joseph and Benjamin.
- Jacob eagerly served seven years and then seven more for her hand in marriage.
- Died giving birth to Benjamin.
Bilhah
Mother of Dan and Naphtali.
Zilpah
Leah’s maidservant and the mother of Gad and Asher.
Reuben
- Committed adultery with his father’s concubine Bilhah, forfeiting the birthright.
- Intervened for Joseph’s life when the sons of Jacob sought to kill him.
- He pledged the life of himself and his sons when Jacob was unwilling to let Benjamin go to Egypt.
