Genes chromosomes and allelles2 Flashcards
1) What do the bandings on a chromosomes represent
The bandings represent the genes
2) How many genes do humans have
Humans have roughly 23,000 to 24,000 genes
3) What is an allele
An allele is a different version of a gene
4) How many chromosomes do most cells have
Most cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46
5) Why are the chromosomes referred to as being in pairs
Because each one comes from your mum and your dad
6) What is the code for a male
XY
7) What is the code for a female
XX
8) Where are the chromosomes found
The chromosomes are found in the nucleus
9) Put the following in size order
Gene, Chromosomes, Nucleus, DNA
Nucleus, chromosomes, gene, DNA
10) Use those terms to explain how genetic material is organised.
. Firstly the nucleus which is the biggest and then there is the chromosomes which have 23 pairs each. On the chromosomes there are the genes which have 23,000 to 24,000 of them and then there is the DNA and there are roughly 3billion of them.
