Genes Flashcards
How is an organisms development and functions controlled?
It is controlled by instructions called genes in the nucleus of cells
What do genetic instructions create and how do the products vary?
The instructions describe how to make specific proteins, each designed for specific tasks. Some are structural (collagen) and others are functional (enzymes like amylase
How are the instructions in nuclei made and how do they determine features?
Genes are sections of DNA that make up chromosomes in nuclei. DNA>Genes>Chromosomes.
Most characteristics and features are made up of several of these genes working together
How else can characteristics be determined/ developed?
As well as being inherited through genes, a person is also shaped by their environment. Some factors are purely genes (dimples), some purely enviro (scars), some are both (weight)
