generation of electricity Flashcards

1
Q

what is faradays law?

A

when a conductor moves between two magnetic poles perpendicular to the magnetic field, then an EMF is induced in across the conductor

Q

describe the functions of an alternator

A

electromagnets arranged in a static ring called a stator with a rotating set of coils running on an axle through the stator ring called the rotor, which generates an alternating current.

Q

what is the generator principle?

A

electro magnetic induction, faradays law. the induced voltage increases in proportion to the magnetic filed strength, the movement speed, and the effective length of the conductor

Q

how is electricity produced using light

A

two layers of a semiconductors called P-type (holes) and N-type (electrons) are sandwiched together, when light energy falls on the n -type then the light increase the vibration of the atoms and allows a free electron to be released from the N-type and move to the P-type. The more light energy that falls on the semi-conductor the greater the increase in conductivity.

Q

how do thermocouples work?

A

they work by having two dissimilar metals welded together, this creates a junction which a PD can be measured across. used to measure EGT.
