Generals Flashcards
What are three causes of opposition to current flow in an ac circuit?
Resistance, Inductive reactance and capacitive reactance.
Define inductance.
An induced voltage which is opposite in direction to the applied voltage.
How does a capacitor store electricity?
Electrostatic charge that exists between wo conductors separated by a an insulator.
What property of an AC circuit is defined by the term impedance?
The total opposition to current flow.
What are two reasons that might cause a nickel-cadmium battery to fail to deliver its rated capacity.
Faulty cell or cell imbalance.
What prevents current from returning to the battery?
A reverse current cutout relay.
Why is control of the weight and balance of an aircraft important?
SAFETY
What is the datum of an aircraft and what is its function
A ln imaginary vertical plane at right angle to the longitudinal axis of the plane. It’s used as a reference point for weight and balance calculations.
What are two ways of determining the arm of an item of equipment?
Measuring the distance from the item to the datum or obtain information from the manufacturer.
How does the category of an aircraft affect its loaded weight.
The plane can have two different useful loads or max gross weights depending on what category the plane is in.
Where are leveling instructions found and describe one method of leveling an aircraft?
The TCDS, use a spirit level or plumb bob with a level gauge
Define the term “mean aerodynamic chord” or MAC
The distance between the leading edge and trailing edge in the middle of the wing.
What are the two ways of showing the cg location and/or C.G. range.
Distance from the datum or in percent of the MAC
What is the purpose of an aircraft loading graph?
To evenly distribute the load to ensure the cg is within limits.
Is there any requirement for cleaning an aircraft prior to an annual or 100-HR inspection.
YES, per FAR part 43 Appx. D.
What are common light duty cleaning agents?
Soap and water.
What materials are commonly used as heavy duty cleaners?
Solvents and emulsions.
Give atleast three examples of the factors that cause or influence corrosion
- Environmental conditions
- Type of metals used
- The presence of dissimilar metals.
- The presence of electrolytes
- The presence of protective coatings
Name atleast one cause of filiform corrosion.
- Improper curing of primer prior to painting
- Failure to completely wash off acidic surface contamination
What are the visible signs of filiform corrosion?
A worm like markings underneath the paint.
What are visible signs of fretting corrosion?
A dark smoky appearance - often found around rivet heads.
Why are piano type hinges prime spots for corrosion?
Galvanic corrosion due to a steel pin and an aluminum hinge. Water could also get entrapped in the mechanism.
What are the best ways to keep piano hinges from corrosion?
Keep them dry and lubricated.
