Generalization Flashcards
Define Generalization
A behaviour that occurs in the presence of an Sd that is similar to that used in training (behaviour change that exists beyond the program)
Explain Response Maintenance (one of the 3 kinds of generalization)
It is the extension of behaviour change over time after the program is no longer in effect
Explain Transfer of Behaviour across Situations (one of the 3 kinds of generalization)
It is the behaviour change that takes place in new/different settings and circumstances
Explain Response Generalization (one of the 3 kinds of generalization)
Altering one behaviour leads to similar changes in another, unaddressed response, usually one that is similar or related to the target behaviour
What are Stokes and Osnes three proposed categories of generalization strategies?
- Exploit current functional contingencies : use contingencies that occur naturally in the environment
- Train diversely: allow variations in the antecedent stimuli, responses and consequences employed in the modification procedures
- Incorporate functional mediators: a stimulus that occurs between training and generalization and facilitates or promotes generalization (usually an Sd)
What is a behavioural trap?
A behaviour that has been developed by programmed reinforcers is ‘trapped’ (maintained) by natural reinforcers
Explain In Situ training
Training occurs in the natural environment after an in situ assessment in which the person does not preform the target behaviour (person doesnt know they are being assessed)
Teach a range of functionally equivalent responses is what?
Response class
Explain General Case training (aka general case programming)
Use a range of antecedents and consequences in training
