Static art

Sequential art
Images which move from frame to frame in print form which appears in storyboard, graphic novel, comic strips, and photo essay
Frame
Smallest unit of film possible. Film frames appear on a film strip, which creates the illusion of motion
Shot
Continuous, unedited piece of film
Sequence
A series of scenes edited together
Take
Time a shot is begun to the time it stops
Parallel action
Narrative strategy that cross-cuts between 2+ separate actions to create the illusion they are occurring simultaneously
Objective camera
Science is shot from the viewpoint of a spectator watching from outside the scene
Subjective camera
Scene is shit from the viewpoint of a character directly involved in the action
Off screen
Words heard with the actor outside the cameras view
Voice over
Words spoken off screen that are heard over the visual shots
Hook
The opening sequences in a film which catch the audiences attention
Blocking a shot/scene
The process of figuring out where the camera goes, the lighting arrangements, as wells as the actors positions and movements for each shot
