Shaw v DPP
A
D published a ladies directory, advertising names and addresses of prostitutes.
He was charged with conspiracy to corrupt public morals. HoL accepted there was a common law offence for this as there wasn’t a statutory offence that covered this situation.

Woolmington v DPP
A
D threatened to commit suicide to his wife. He pulled out a loaded shotgun to show he meant it.
As he brought it out, somehow the gun went off and killed he wife. He claimed this was a pure accident.
The burden of proof was put on the defendant to prove the defence, the HoL held this was incorrect.
