The fact that it survived for so long without a president shows that the rich and powerful have held the poor hostage for a long time. However, the fact that the military rejected the prospect of a coup shows that the country is not completely corrupt

Literally a struggle. Typically used to describe religious war
What was early Nigeria like?
It was divided into many cultural parts and had no central state
What is an acephalous society?
It is a headless society that has no central leadership
How did the British enforce their indirect rule over Nigeria?
They appointed warrant chiefs to assist in the colonial regime
What is indirect rule?
It is when an empire uses local leaders and political structure to support their colonial governance
How did the British divide Nigeria up in the later colonial years?
They broke it up into three parts, all with their distinct ethnic groups
