Q

Limbic Lobe Borders

A

A strip of cortex encircling the junction of the telencephalon/diencephalon (from a midline sagital view.)
Starting anteriorly, its inner border is with the Corpus Callosum and the Callosasl sulcus. Its outer border is the cingulate sulcus and continues with the subparietal sulcus and circluing in an imaginary arc to the collateral suclus inferiorly with the temporal lobe border.

Q

Explain the Hippocampus’s relationship to the Limbic system. 2

A

Hippocampus is functionally a part fo the limbic system although not a part of the limbic lobe.

A lot of short term memory.

(The hippocampus is folded into the temporal lobe at the hippocampal sulcus)

16
Q

While Cranial Nerves pass through the Thalamus, what else passes through the Thalamus?

A

Looped information from the Motor System synapse in Thalamus. Cerebellum to cortex and Basal ganglia to cortex.
Limbic Projections to the Cortex pass through Thalamus.

17
Q

The Hypothalamus forms what part of the ventricles and has what two features that can be seen from the inferior brain?

A

Forms the floor of the 3rd ventricle.

Projects the Infundibular Stalk and 2 rounded Mammillary bodies.

18
Q

What is the function of the Hypothalamus?

A

Major visceral control center of the brain and is involved in limbic system. (Communicates w/ pituitary gland for hormones and ANS.

19
Q

What are the 2 Basal Ganglia in the brainstem?

A

Substantia nigra

Subthalamic Nucleus

20
Q

What do the Cerebral Peduncles do and what is the name of their pathway type?

A

Connect parts of the brain

Projection fibers.
