“nàshí” 那时 and “dāngshí” 当时
Nashi refers to a specific and usually distant time already discussed while dangshi is used more for specific events that can be either near or distant
在/着
Zai emphasises an ongoing action at a particular time or place while zhe indicates the state/condition of something existing or a simultaneous action
Zài and Zhe
Zài used more in the present to emphasise that the action is happening now while Zhe is used mostly in written communication unless describing an event in the past
Zhèyàng
often pronounced as “zhàng”
Xiǎng想 vs xiàng像
listen for tone difference
像 - to be like
只是/就是
只是 - it’s just
就是 - that is
避免/不免
to avoid/unavoidable
导致/引起 dǎo zhì/yǐn qǐ
导致 - a direct cause and effect (to lead to)
引起 - a provocation or reaction caused
不过/就是
不过 - negative to positive contrast
就是 - positive to negative contrast

Jīnglì - story
Jīngyàn - knowledge
表达/表示
biǎodà - emotions and thoughts
biǎoshì - attitude or vibe
(both mean to express)
变成/成为/变得
biànchéng - to change into
chéngwéi - to grown into
biánde - used only for or with adjectives (to become wise or mature)
yòu 又 / zài 再
yòu - is reoccurring and usually negative
zài - an intended repetition
dǒng懂 míngbái明白
dǒng - to understand a subject deeply
míngbái - to understand something clearly or fully
好像/看来/原来
hǎo xiàng - seems or appears, (looks like)
kàn lái - it seems (based on info/evidence)
yuán lái - turns out to be (that’s why)
