General Knowledge Flashcards
What is cellular respiration?
The process in which organisms take molecules broken down from food and release chemical energy stored in the chemical bonds of those molecules.
What type of organisms undergo cellular respiration?
Both heterotrophs and autotrophs. only autotrophs undergo photosynthesis.
What is the equation for cellular respiration?
66H12O6 + 6O2 ==> 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy(38 ATP)
what is the folded inner membrane called in the mitochondria
the folded inner-membrane is called the cristae.
what is the cytoplasm like center of the mitochondria called?
the center is called the matrix
what are the steps of cellular respiration
1.Glycolysis (anaerobic)
2.pre Krebs +Krebs cycle (aerobic) AKA citric acid cycle
3.Electron transport chain (aerobic) AKA E.T.C.
how many ATPS does cellular respiration make?
Glycolysis ⇒ 2 ATP (makes 4, net 2)
Krebs cycle ⇒ 2 ATP
ETC ⇒ 34 ATP
In total ⇒ 38 ATP
what energy carriers are in cellular respiration?
ATP
NADH( similar to NADPH in photosynthesis)
FADH2
how is cellular respiration related to photosynthesis?
The Products of one are the reactants of another.
cellular respiration and photosynthesis make up what cycle?
The Carbon cycle.
