Fermentation Flashcards
What are the two types of fermentation?
Alcoholic and lactic acid fermentation.
how are the two types of fermentation diffrent?
Alcoholic fermentation only occurs in yeast/fungi and bacteria. Lactic acid fermentation occurs in muscle cells.
what does alcoholic fermentation convert sugar into?
Alcoholic fermentation convers Sugar into energy with the byproduct of alcohol.
what does lactic acid fermentation convert sugar into?
Converts sugars into energy with byproduct of lactic acid
what is the chemical formula for Alcoholic fermentation?
Glucose → glycolysis ⇒ ethanol + CO2 + 2 ATP
what is the chemical formula for lactic acid fermentation
Glucose → glycolysis ⇒ Lactic Acid +2 ATP
what are the products of Alcoholic fermentation?
Ethanol (alcohol) carbon dioxide and ATP.
what are the products of lactic acid fermentation?
Lactic acid and ATP.
where do each reactions occur?
Latic acid fermentation occurs in the cytoplasm while alcoholic fermentation occurs in the cytosol (different things but same region).
