What are the qualities on a tuber?

A

A potato is the classic example of a tuber. However there is no standard shape, but they are usually squat and knobbly. The buds or eyes are scattered over the surface so stems spear from the sides and top.

A

Rhizomes grow horizontally. The growing point is at the tip of the rhizome but other buds will form along the sides. Roots develop from buds on the underside of the rhizome.
