When is PPN indicated?
compromised gut function who require supplemental nutrition for less than 14 days
What is the minimum amount of time that preoperative TPN is needed for, for nutritional repletion?
7-10 days; the use of postoperative TPN is recommended only when it’s longer than 2-3 days duration
What is preferred, enteral diet or parental diets?
enteral is safer and preferred
Used for short-term feeding that can be placed with the patient awake

Similar to a G tube but does not require general anasethesia and the patient is NOT already undergoing open surgery; placed during surgery

Indicated for patients with poor gastric emptying

Placed during surgery and can provide nutritional support for over six weeks
