What is Safe Mode and how do you access it?
A Mode that boots the Operating system with only the most basic functions to allow for troubleshooting without affecting the rest of the system. It is used generally when problems arise with viruses, corrupted files
Press F8 before the OS boots or Shift+Restart(Win 10)
What is an IP Address
A number assigned to a device to identify its location on a network.
What is a Default Gateway
A path to reach other networks
What are the 4 common types of LAN cables and their speeds
Cable: Speed(Up to)
CAT5: 100mbps
CAT5e: 1000mbps
CAT6: 1000mbps Certified Gigabit
CAT6a: 10,000 mbps
What is DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
Assigns IP addresses to devices when first joining a network if no static IP is configured
What is DNS
Domain Name System
Reroutes host names to IP addresses (ie. “google.com” to 8.8.8.8)
Port 53
What is a VPN
A secure tunnel used to remotely connect to a network resource
What is group policy
A set of Permissions Assigned to a group of Users
How would you recover data from a virus infected computer
- Remove the hard drive from the infected computer
- Slave it to second computer that has up to date virus definitions, patches, and drivers
- Scan the drive for viruses
- Extract data after the virus has been removed
What is a firewall
A filter between two network resources that can block Incoming or outgoing traffic
What is TCP/IP
Transmission control Protocol
Deals with establishing a connection before data is sent

What is RAID and what are the 4 main types
Redundant Array of Independent Disks. Used to provide redundancy across multiple hard disks
RAID 0: Striping
RAID 1: Mirroring
RAID 5: Striping with error correction
RAID 10: Mirroring + Striping
What is a proxy
A filter used on network traffic to prevent acces to certain websites.
Can also hide the true origin point of access.

20 & 21
