General Examination Blood Pressure Flashcards
Blood Pressure
Definition
Lateral pressure exerted by moving column of blood on arterial walls
Systolic bp
Max bp in arteries attained during systolic
Normal 120+20
Diastolic bp
Min pressure attained at end of ventricular diastolic
Normal 60 to 90
Pulse pressure
and
Mean arterial pressure
Pulse pressure- diff btwn sys and Dia pressure normal (40-60)
Mean arterial pressure=DBP+1/3(Pulse pressure)
Normal 95 mm hg
White coat hypertension
Normal bp at home or while testing but raised office bp
Masked hypertension
Elevated bp at home or whole testing monitoring but normal office bp
Paroxysomal hypertension
Episodic elevated bp
Pheochromocytoma Panic disorder Hypoglycemia Anxiety Hyperthyroidism
Hypotension
Less than 90/60
Postural hypotension
Fall of bp systolic by atleast 20 and diastolic by atleast 10 when posture change from supine to erect
