General Concepts Flashcards
What are the steps to investigating a statistic?
What is statistical inference?
procedures used to make conclusions and generalizations about a population (the whole) based on a sample (a limited number of observations).
What is a Type I error?
An error that results in a false positive
What is the purpose of a Histogram?
Describe both continuous and discrete data
answers how many points fall within a given ‘bin’ / ‘range’.
What are the three types of skewness?
right skewed (median < mean)
left skewed (median > mean)
symmetrical (median = mean = mode)
What does a boxplot do?
reveals skewness and clustering
shows the degree of which the data is spread out
What is
Coefficient of Variance. Closer to zero the more consistent the data set.
Define the coefficient of variance
