Binomial and Normal Distributions Flashcards
What is the formula for a binomial distribution?
What does this mean?
X is normally distributed with a mean of u and a variance of whatsit square
What is a Z-transformational formula
What formula do you use to convert a normal distribution to a standard normal distribution
z-transformational formula
population variance (standard deviation squared)
The population mean of the random variable
What are the properties of the Normal probability distribution function?
- the shape of the curve is determined by the population variance and the population mean
- the location of the peak (mode) is determined by the population mean
- the spread, or dispersion of the curve, is determined by the value of the standard deviation.
- it is symmetric about the mean. Thus the mean, mode and median are all equal to the mean.
- the total area under the curve is equal to one.
What is the formula to covert a binomial distribution into an approximation of a normal distribution?
With a significance level of 0.05, if a tests p-value is 0.02 what decision should be made about the Null?
As the p-value is less than the significance level, the Null should be rejected.
