Q
First order reactions
A
Rate proportional to the concentration of one reactant. Units=1/s
[At] = [Ao] e^-kt At= conc of A at time t, Ao=initial conc, k=rate constant, t=elapsed time
Another way to represent the equation:
ln[A] = ln[Ao] - kt
decay= t1/2=.693/k if they say by factor of 4 it’s 2 half lifes
1
Q
Zero Order Reactions
A
Has a constant rate. Units: Mol/L S Rate = k [A] = [Ao] - (ko) (t) Ao=initial conc of A, ko= zero order rate constant, t= time Half life = 1/2 Ao/ko
2
Q
Second order reactions
A
rate=k[B]^2 or rate=k[A][B], etc.
Units: L/mol S
3
Q
Collision theory equation
A
rate = fz
f=# of collisions that are effective, z= total # of collisions/second
