Production of erythrocytes (haematopoiesis)
Production of B-lymphocytes into the lymphatic system for immunity
What are the general oral signs and symptoms of bone marrow failure?
Pale lips/skin
Bleeding gums
Herpes infections
Candidal infections
What is hyperviscosity and how does it present?
It is increased thickness of the blood in chronic myeloblastic leukaemia and presents with visual disturbances, headaches and priapism
What is priapism?
A potentially painful medical condition in which the erect penis does not return to its flaccid state, despite the absence of both physical and psychological stimulation, within four hours.
What are the 9 general signs of organ infiltration of blood problems?
- Tender bones
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Mediastinal compression
- Meningeal involvement
- Deposits
- Cranial nerve palsy
- Hepatosplenomegaly
- Testicular swelling
