What does the number of carbon atoms say about the state?
1 - 4 = gases
5 - 15 = liquids
16+ = solids
Which families belong to the hydrocarbons?

Alkynes
What is a parent chain?
The longest number of connected carbons
What is a sidebranch?
Any other carbons that are present but are not in the parent chain
What does the reversible arrow mean?
That while the reactants are forming the products, the products are simultaneously forming the products

Hydration
What is the addition of hydrogen called?
Hydrogenation
What is the addition of Br2, Cl2, HBr and HCl called?
Halogenation
What do all substitution reactions need in order to take place?
Energy in the form of UV light or heat
What are the two oxidising agents?
Dichromate (Cr2O7^2-) and permanganate (MnO4^-)
