General Flashcards
Actively reflect on how a part of a question might refer to a previous part.
If they get you to prove something, there is a reason for it
On the rare occasion they give you some piece of theory possibly required to solve on of these questions -
if you haven’t used the tip then reflect on your answer
Marks for efficiency
Compare coefficients
In MC, try using various answers to eliminate/find counterexamples
cant really just spot a pattern, must say why its true
must justify
prove something
Try all possibilities, eliminate all other possibilities, dont rush
sub in values for n, x, k, y, a, b…
use what they have given you,
show thats: if havent got there, find the difference between yours and the answer
Find pattern, sub in answers
Compare coefficients
Find pattern writing solutions systematically
2/3 unknowns then compare coefficients and form simultaneous equations
Think if there is a broader answer to the question
Draw sketch of whats happening as variables change
Multiple choice:
try plugging in the available answers
Compare coefficients
think what must happen to one
Although one answer may be right,
are the others wrong
Never that much work
Simplify, marks for efficiency
Target show that questions
think about what they have given you and what you have got
Show stuff, always do that extra bit
dont rush, or undersimplify
Make sure answer suits all conditions, not just one
Always think about why they have given you certain details and their usefulness
Use their hints, think about what they are asking
shows thats: think of relationship between your answer and what they want
usually minimal work
compare coefficients
Last few MC questions can be quite long and complex
worth doing though
Can do show that from the LHS or the RHS if it says show that A is equal to B
Could be useful when factorizing as could expand and compare coefficients
Write out answers and say what you are doing
Explain thought process
