To promote the usefulness of the profession for the advantage of the UK and in the other parts of the world
What are the key functions of RICS?
Key functions include setting standards, providing qualifications, and regulating members.
What is a Royal Charter?
A Royal Charter is a formal document granted by the monarch, establishing RICS as a professional body.

What do you understand by the term self-regulation?
Self-regulation allows RICS to regulate itself without external control.
Can you tell me what you understand by the principles of better regulation?
What is a Bye-Law?
Give an example of one of the RICS Bye-Laws.
Explain to me the new RICS Rules of Conduct - what do they replace?
The main aim of revising the Rules of Conduct was to make them simpler for professionals and the public by building the rules on ethical principles and combining the requirements for members and firms. The new Rules of Conduct is a single document which replaces the old Rules of Conduct for members, Rules of Conduct for firms and global ethical principles.
When do the 5 Rules of Conduct take effect?

All RICS members including student and trainee members, and to all regulated firms, wherever they work
What are the ethical principles that the Rules of Conduct are based on?
What are the 5 Rules?
- Members and firms must be honest, act with integrity and comply with their
professional obligations, including obligations to RICS. - Members and firms must maintain their professional competence and ensure
that services are provided by competent individuals who have the necessary
expertise. - Members and firms must provide good-quality and diligent service.
- Members and firms must treat others with respect and encourage diversity and
inclusion. - Members and firms must act in the public interest, take responsibility for their
actions and act to prevent harm and maintain public confidence in the profession.
