- Contiguous (direct) spread - abscess, bone and meningitis - e.g cellulitis

- Ingestion - gastroenteritis, typhoid - mostly feaco- oral route
- Inhalation - colds, influenza, TB - mostly respiratory infections
- Vector - malaria and lyme disease
• Vertical transmission - HIV, rubella and syphilis
