Gene Interactions Flashcards
What does sex-linked refer to?
The genes which are carried on the sex chromosomes (X or Y).
What does sex-influence refer to?
The phenotype depends on the gender of the animal even though the gene controlling the characteristics is not on the sex chromosome, they are instead influenced by sex hormones.
What are Lethal Alleles?
Homozygous Alleles that cause an animal if they have them, it arises when a mutation to a normal allele disrupts the function of an essential gene (which causes the death of the animal).
Are Lethal Alleles dominant or recessive?
This is a trick question, Lethal Alleles can be either dominant or recessive.
What are multiple Alleles?
This is where three or more alternative Alleles of a single gene is possible.
What are Epistatic effects?
When one gene affects the expression of another gene or the phenotype.
