Gene Interaction Flashcards
What is complementation?
The same trait is affected by more than one gene.
What is a complementation test?
Two individuals with the same mutant phenotype are crossed. If the children are Wt, there is complementation.
In the case of double recessive epistasis, two white flowers are crossed to produced purple F1. What are the phenotypic ratios produced by a cross between F1.
9 purple: 7 white
What is the molecular basis of double recessive epistasis?
The Wt allele of both genes is required for the Wt phenotype.
What is recessive epistasis?
Phenotype produced by a homozygous mutant allele of one genes masks the phenotype produced by alleles of another gene.
How many phenotypes are expected to be produced is recessive epistasis applies?
What is the expected phenotypic ratio amongst F2 offspring in the case of dominant epistasis.
12 mutant: 3Wt: 1 intermediate
What is suppression?
Allele in one gene reverses the effect of a mutation of another gene, resulting in a Wt phenotype.
Can suppressor alleles have their own phenotypes?
Yes
Can suppressor alleles produce modified dihybrid ratios?
Yes
Are suppressor alleles only recessive?
Recessive or dominant.
What is the phenotypic ratio observed amongst offspring from an F1 cross?
15:1
