Q

how can gender bias affect
- observations
- conclusions
- design of a study

A

observations: when researchers are expecting women and men to act differently they may observe behaviour in one gender that they ignore in the other this may be because the define the behavioural categories in a incomplete way.

conclusions: it can affect how results are interpreted and conclusions made about a study

design of study: researcher may not be thinking about gender at all. this lack of thinking can impact the experimental design. for e.g Zimbardo, Milgram and Asch only included male participants so there research may suffer from beta bias. therefore the results may not generalise to both genders and we can say it lacks population validity.

Q

what is androcentrism?

what is androcentric bias? + study to support it.

evaluation for androcentric bias

A

when researcher focuses on male behaviours and attitudes

when this leads to lack of validity and reliability we say this research suffers from androcentric bias

Freud theory suffers from androcentric alpha bias because they claim there are large permanent psychological differences between men and women. also claimed that males traits were normal and desirable and being different from men women were abnormal and inferior.

evaluation: inaccurate and misleading conclusions about female behaviour has gone unchallenged.
