Q

Give an example of alpha bias

A

Bowlby’s monotropic theory of attachment

Sociobiological theory - Men prefer young women as it shows fertility and they prefer impregnating many women/short term relationships. Females prefer older strong males/long term relationships and if they act like men e.g. being with many men, it’s seen as against their nature.

Q

Evaluate gender bias research and it’s consequences/strengths

A

Can create misleading assumptions about women e.g. PMS - counter - modern research shows positive female attributes e.g. better at learning

Modern research challenges evolutionary research regarding gender bias(Darwin) - E.g. men can also be selective when choosing partners

Previous gender bias research has led to a criteria being formed to avoid bias(Worrell) - study women irl context - reduces investigator effects, stereotypes etc

Research challenges the idea of gender bias/suggests each gender is unique(Gilligan) - e.g. moral understanding differs between gender
