Girls outperform boys at every stage in National Curriculum Tests (NCTs or SATs) in English and science, and outperform in language and literacy
GCSE
Girls more successful than boys in most GCSE subjects, boys catching up
In English, 70% of girls get A-C, compared to 54% of boys in 2013
Also in 2013, 66% of girls got 5 or more GCSEs, boys only got 56% (A-C)
A Level
Higher proportion of girls in sixth form
Female school leavers more likely to get 3 or more A Level passes + achieve higher point scores than males
Higher Education
More women apply for + are accepted in full-time university degree courses
2013- 55% of those accepted 2014- women were 57% of those applying
Female students more likely to get top 1st-class and upper 2nd-class degrees
What Problems Still Remain For Girls?
Social class still trumps gender
Perry and Francis- m/c boys outperform w/c girls
Arts subjects taken by females- girls less likely to participate in subjects leading to STEM careers
Women less likely to achieve similar levels of success in employment, men hold positions of power
16-24, women better qualified than men
