specialised jargon bonds
says that a ‘specialised jargon serves not just to label new and needed concepts, but to establish bonds between members of the in group and enforce boundaries for outsiders’
Annarzej Kollataj (2009) ?
jargon is not stigmatised
argues that using such jargon is not stigmatised when compared to the other language choices (e.g. slang) that make group boundaries. thus it is accepted, such acceptance makes it powerful
Penelope Eckert (2006) ?
jargon creates community
argues that language use in work communities creates a sense of identity for all those involved
drew & heritage and asymmetry (1993) ?
suggests there are strong hierarchies of power within organisations, with many asymmetrical relationships marked by language use.
one example of this is the idea that there are constraints on individuals dictation the language they are allowed to use
examples: employees who have lost their job for posting on social media
