gender Flashcards
come to my woman’s breast and take my milk as gall
this shows how Lady Macbeth wants to get rid of her womanhood and replace it with manlike traits like cruelty
i dare do all that may become a man; who dares do more is none
macbeth says he is willing to do anything to consider himself as manly or proper or noble
when you durst do it, then you were a man. and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more tha man
lady macbeth tells macbeth that he must truly be a coward if he won’t carry out the murder, and that he’ll be a man (manipulating him)
my hands are of your colour, but i shame to wear a heart so white
she is appalled by macbeth’s cowardice. when she says shame to wear a heart, it represents the reverse gender roles in the relaitonship of the two
o gentle lady, tis not for you to hear what i can speak. the repetition in a woman’s ear would murder as it felt
macduff suggests that women are weaker than men and that lady macbeth is too gentle to hear of the terrible news of duncan’s death. the irony of this quote is that she plotted the murder and was indeed not too gentle
wisdom? to leave his wife.. his babes. his mansion, and his titles in a place from whence himself does fly! he loves us not
shows the stereotypical gender roles of the man going off to work while the woman stays home and takes care of the children
help me hence ho!
lady macbeth purposefully faints after ‘discovering’ King Duncan’s death. she makes a pretence of feminine weakness to draw attention away from herself and her husband over their complicity in the regicide.
