Senn Retractor

A
  • Retracting/viewing
  • Handheld: Used in pairs for counter retraction in procedures such as
    carpal tunnel and podiatry cases.
  • Used in small superficial incisions to pull back the skin edges of the
wound and provide visibility during the procedure.

Traumatic and Atraumatic: one end is small 3 prong that holds fatty tissue ( prevenst slipage. ( sharp or dull) can punctue a blood vessel and gloves. handel with care. other side is a right angle, used to hold small iscisions next to bld ves or nerves.

Q

Balfour with the Bladder Blade

A

Retracting/viewing

Size: Retractor comes with variable blades.
Blades come in variable sizes

  • Self-retaining: Allows traction from three different directions at the same time
leaving the scrub crew’s hands free for other tasks.
  • Atraumatic: Used for large abdominal incisions for visualization.

(just in case its just the bladder blade on the test)

The blades on the Balfour can often be exchanged for shallower ones for thinner patients. Pass the Balfour to the surgeon with the blades together and pointing
down into the abdomen. Once that piece is in place, pass the bladder blade which the surgeon will attach to the wing nut devise.

Harrington Retractor

A
  • Retracting/viewing
  • Handheld: Used in
    procedures that required retraction of
    the liver.
  • Atraumatic: The broad smooth surface of the heart shaped blade gently holds the fragile liver, while the indent at the top of the heart straddles the gallbladder.

Q

Weitlander Retractor

A

Retracting/viewing

Size: variable

  • Self retaining: Used to retract medium amounts of tough tissue (muscles, bone) in shallow incisions.
  • Atramatic/Traumatic: comes in sharp for fatty or dense tissue and blunt for delicate structures.
18
Q

Right Angle Retractor

A

Retracting/viewing

  • Handheld: Used for single sided retraction of deep tissue.
  • Atraumatic: Used to retract abdominal organs in laparotomies or the vaginal walls to visualize the cervix.
