Examples of ecosystem services and its benefits.
-Food grown from urban initiatives.
-Trees providing shade, preventing overheating, ground surfaces and cooling surrounding air.
- vegetation reducing surface runoff and flood risk, while also absorbing and trapping air pollutants.
What are threats to sustainable Urban Development?
-Hiking along known designated, the trails result in trampling of vegetation and soil compaction, which leads higher runoff and erosion.
- littering causes land pollution
- wild animals can get injured or tangled by trash. Or they made mistake litter for food and consume them which leads to death.
Fire Hazards cause and impacts
Causes:
-Unattended cooking
-Faulty electrical appliances
-Vehicle fires
Impacts:
-Deaths or injuries
-Respiratory difficulties
-Destruction of Goods
Air pollution Causes and Impacts
Cause:
-Industrial and motor emissions
-burning of vegetation
Impacts:
-Respiratory infections
-Lung cancer
-poor health leads to high healthcare costs
-poor health leads to worser worker productivity
Traffic Hazards Causes and Impacts
Causes:
-Irresponsible drivers may cause accidents
Impacts:
-Injuries or loss of life
-removes working adults from workforce
Strategies for economic sustainability
