GCSE Mocks Hard Bits Flashcards
What’s electrical current?
Flow of electrical charge
Size of electrical current = rate of flow of electrical charge
When is work done?
When energy is transferred (electrical)
When an object is moved
Series vs parallel
Resistors
Series:
Rt = R1 + R2
Parallel:
1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2
Series vs parallel
Current
Series:
Same through all components
Parallel:
Shared through all components
Series vs parallel
Potential difference
Series:
Shared across components
Parallel:
Same across components
Why’s the national grid so efficient?
Because the step up transformers increase the potential difference before it’s transferred to the cables so less energy is lost so minimal energy can be lost
When cable currents are high and more energy is wasted to the surroundings through heating
Electrical currents = high PD / low current
Absolute uncertainty
Range / 2 = + or - (certain number)
% uncertainty
Absolute uncertainty / mean uncertainty x 100
What’s temperature?
Measure of average internal energy of a substance / system / object
How to find specific heat capacity using a graph
1 / mass x gradient
What’s force?
Push / pull that an object experiences due to another object
What’s Acceleration?
How fast something speeds up/slows down
Rate of velocity change
What’s terminal velocity?
Constant speed
What’s inertia?
Tendency of an object to continue in the state of rest/uniform motion
What’s inertial mass?
How difficult it is to speed up or slow down an object
Change its velocity
