Typical pattern of gastroparesis?
A
T1 diabetic presenting w/ bloating, vomiting and poor glucose control (although taking insulin properly)

Why does gastroparesis occur?
A
Due to neuropathy of the VAGUS nerve causing abnormal gut movement

What type of neuropathy do diabetics tend to have?
A
Usually sensory (not motor loss) in peripheral neuropathy. PAINFUL - common problem

1st line for diabetic neuropathy?
A
1) Either: (AD PiG!)
- Amitriptyline
- Duloxetine
- Gabapentin
- Pregabalin

2nd line if one doesnt work (diabetic neuropathy)?
A
2) Try any of the other 3 from 1st line options

‘Rescue therapy’ for diabetic neuropathy?
A
Tramadol

What would you do if diabetic neuropathic pain was persistent?
A
Refer to pain management clinic
