What are Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs)?
A
- tumors of connective tissue (sarcomas) unlike most gastrointestinal tumors
- they are nonepithelial
- 70% occur in the stomach, 20% in the small intestine

A
- trouble swallowing, gastrointestinal bleeding, or metastases (mainly in the liver).

- c-KIT, staining positive for CD 117
