Gastrointestinal Flashcards
1
Q
Secretory IgA
A
- 2 immunoglobin chains
- dimer
- J chain
- Secretory piece- prevents degradation in secretions.
- abundant in tears, saliva, mucus and colostrum(first breast milk fed to an infant after birth)
2
Q
Maternal blood
A
IgG monomers, IgM pentamers, IgA monomers, and IgE monomers. IgA does not exist in dimeric form in the serum.
-IgG constistutes the greatest amount of circulating Immunoglobuin in the serum and is able to cross the placenta and enter the fetal blood stream providing passive immunity
3
Q
Fetal Thymus
A
- primarily a T-lymphocyte associated organ
- Immature thymocytes derived from the bone marrow beginning in the 9th week of gestation, and mature naiive T cells are not released until the 16th week of gestation.
4
Q
Meckel’s Diverticulum
Rule of 2’s?
A
- most common viteline duct anomaly(should obliterate at week 7) in fetal development
- Results from a partial closure of the vitelline duct, with the patent portion attached to the ileum. A fibrous band mayc connect the tip of the diverticulum with the umbilicus.
- Rule of 2’s: 2% of population, 2 feet from the ileocecal valve, 2 inches in length, 2% are symptomatic, and males are 2 times more likely to be affected
5
Q
Omphalocele
A
- midline defect- abdominal wall muscles failed to close.
- abdominal organs protrude through the defect, covered with peritoneal sac.
6
Q
What condition is Duodenal atresia associated with?
A
Trisomy 21
7
Q
Vitelline duct cysts(enterocyts)
A
- peripheral portions of the vitelline duct obliterate(the ones connected to the ileum and the umbilicus)
- central part remains.
- this cysts is connected with the ileum and the abdominal wall by fibrous bands
8
Q
Accumulation of pertechnetate in the RLQ is diagnostic of?
A
- Meckel’s diverticulum
- failure of oliteration of omphalomesenteric duct
- M.D has gastric mucosa
- melena
- RLQ pain
9
Q
Failure of ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds to fuse leads to formation of?
A
- pancreatic divisum
- assymptomatic
